Phantom hitchhikers are said to roam a stretch of road which has reputedly borne witness to dozens of mysterious events over the past 60 years.
Now a Carlisle coach firm is to run night tours along the A75 between Gretna and Dumfries to give people the chance to see if they can track down the apparitions for themselves.
The tours will visit Kinmount Straight near Annan, which has been nicknamed Ghost Alley due to the number of spooky happenings reported since the late 1950s.
The trips are being launched this October by Dumfries and Galloway paranormal team Mostly Ghostly Investigations, in partnership with Stacey’s Coaches of Carlisle.
The tour will last around two hours and will visit Annan, Dornock and Gretna Green along with the infamous Kinmount Straight.
Mostly Ghostly already runs the Dumfries Ghost Walk and Haunted Theatre Tour, and have long been fascinated with paranormal reports from the A75.
Kathleen Cronie, founder member of Mostly Ghostly, said: “Many thousands of vehicles travel each day on these parts of the road, including the stretch between Annan and Gretna and the infamous Ghost Alley at Kinmount Straight, but do drivers ever consider the wide array of weird and wonderful phantoms that may lie in store?
“As an innovative team with a passion for the paranormal and a desire to help boost local tourism, we see great potential in developing this tour to attract people with an interest in spooks and hauntings.
“The A75 crops up frequently in polls of most haunted roads in Scotland, Britain and indeed, the world.”
Simon Riddick, transport manager with Stacey’s Coaches said: “We would just like to say how excited we are to be working alongside Mostly Ghostly on the Haunted Highways Tour.”
