Droitwich pubs feature in haunted venues book

Latest News

A HANDFUL of Droitwich pubs feature in a newly-released book about the county’s most haunted drinking establishments.
Author Anne Bradford held a launch event this month at the Old Cock Inn on Friar Street, which is one of the venues included in Haunted Pubs and Hotels in and around Worcestershire.
The West Croft Arms and Leaking Well are also discussed as well as The Country Girl in Hanbury and Ombersley’s The Crown and Lord Sandys.
Readers can find out which town pub used to be a court room where certain criminals were sentenced to death or which establishment’s ‘ghostly shadows’ caused its licensee to want to leave in 1996.
Mrs Bradford, from Redditch, said her son first requested her to write the book 20 years ago.
“There are a huge variety of pubs in Worcestershire with equally varied histories.
“There were pubs acting as the local pick-up joints, others suitable for a king and a few really grisly tales of murders.
“This is a history book, a pub guide and a book of ghost stories all collected into one.”
